The loose passive style of playing in the Texas Hold em is a rather amateur style
of playing. Such players are in the game for the sake of fun and action and will
play any game that seems remotely playable without much thought to strategy
and planning. Fondly called as ‘fish’ at the table they are easier to defeat. Aptly
termed calling stations these players will check or call even when they have
marginal cards like ace-trash or low to medium paired cards. They call just about
everything and hence if you have a decent hand you can comfortably bet into
such players.
Avoid betting too much when you have loose passive players as your opponents
as you are bound to scare them away. Bet small to keep them in the game so
that they can contribute to the pot as necessary. Milk them at each stage for
whatever chips they can put in like flop, turn or river. But do be careful while
bluffing with them for their tendency to call can sometimes backfire. If you do
intend to bluff, do so aggressively with a high amount of bet or raise so that they
truly believe your bluff and do not get scared.

Broadly described poker players can be categorized into 4 types. And only
with experience you will be able to place particular players into particular poker
category. Of course there is enough information available online about the
different types of players in poker. Hence when you next play a poker game
online try and get as much details as you can about your opponents and you
will eventually learn to categorize them. What you do need to remember is
the different types of players in poker do not necessarily have clearly defined
boundaries. Thus any player can change his or her style of game and mislead
the other poker players. So you need to be extra careful and cautious while
playing and not just take for granted.
One of the types is the tight-passive player. These players do not generally
raise or call until and unless they are sure to have a strong hand. Such players
generally prefer playing limit games like Texas Holdem and are afraid to take risk
without a strong hand. If you have a tight passive poker player at your table and
he or she calls your raise, you may want to back up your bet before playing your
game at the poker category.

Poker is an easy game provided you know how to differentiate the players under
the poker category. Broadly divided the players fall under four categories –
loose aggressive, tight aggressive, loose passive or calling stations and the tight
passive players. This classification is based on the way they raise or call, the
spontaneity or the strategies they use to do so.
Loose aggressive are generally high rollers and commonly play Texas Hold ‘em
game. Tight passive are careful players while loose passive or calling stations
make the call quite quickly. Tight aggressive poker players will call or raise only
if they have a good hand and that too aggressively making it very evident for
their opponents to identify them. Such understanding of the opponent players
makes it easy for you to strategize your poker game at the table. The best
way is to try out small games at online casinos and get used to the game, the
strategy and categorization of players for it is only experience that will teach you
to differentiate. Once well experienced and well armed you will be ready to take
on bigger stakes and learn to shift yourself between these categories making it
difficult for your opponent to categorize you.

The second poker category players are the loose passive players. These are
fondly called “calling stations”. They will call any bets placed on the table. Avoid
bluffing with these players. Once they know the flop they will rarely fold. The
third type in the poker category are the tight aggressive. Players who bluff
occasionally come under this category. These players tend to play only if they
have good hands and when they do, they do it quite aggressively. If you have
such an opponent playing with you and he or she raises the bets become alert or
you could end up losing a big chunk of your chips.
The final or the fourth type of player in the poker category is the loose
aggressive. Most players belong to this category. In fact you will find that many
famous players of this card game belong to the loose aggressive category. You
can recognize these players quite easily as they will have no issues chipping “all-
in”. Of course seasoned loose aggressive players easily mix up passive and
aggressive play making it really hard for their opponents to read their cards.
Loose aggressive players will go all in when they have a pair of aces or even if
they have simple cards like 6 and 4.
